Thanks for your write-up. I have always observed that many people are needing to lose weight since they wish to show up slim as well as attractive. Nevertheless, they do not always realize that there are additional benefits just for losing weight as well. Doctors insist that obese people suffer from a variety of conditions that can be directly attributed to their own excess weight. The great news is that people who sadly are overweight and also suffering from a variety of diseases are able to reduce the severity of their particular illnesses by way of losing weight. You'll be able to see a slow but marked improvement in health if even a negligible amount of losing weight is realized.

A very juvenile wish list from someone who lacks the technical expertise or objectivity to comment intelligently on the risks and benefits of fracking.

"Pouring it into our drinking water" indeed. You would know how childish this sounds if you knew something about geology, or if you had ever drilled a well, or if you actually knew some of the poeple you classify as criminals, sight unseen.

You're blaming oil companies for high prices. This is like blaming home owners for selling their houses at market prices. Clearly you don't understand commodity markets.

The same speculators you accuse of pumping up the price of oil can also trade in natural gas futures, and presumably infalte those prices as well. The same industry that pumps oil also produces natural gas. And yet the price of natural gas is down 12% for the year, and down 57% from its average in the final 4 years of the Bush administration.

Additionally, in the past year, while oil has gained 25%, a number of commodities are up even more: sorghum, pork, peanuts, wool, lumber, and rock phosphate among others. Many other commodities are down, including natural gas, lead, rubber, aluminum, cotton, fishmeal, and cocoa beans for example.

Your statement that oil price rises are not market based, full stop, but are the result of the machinations of speculators, full stop, fly in the face of commodity price volatility over the past year. Why would speculators want to make money on one commodity but not another? Why do they permit some to fall in price? Why do greedy oil companies and speculators team up to drive the price of natural gas down? Why have speculators and greedy CEO's decided to drop gasoline prices to fall by 16% since last May? You offer no evidence for your claim that "no supply and demand reason" for prices exists, but then that would be expected, since you have no experience in the commodity or energy industries.

You then criticize the oil industry for higher profits. Many other industries increased their profits last year. If oil company profits are outrageous, and the oil industry controls oil prices, then wouldn't one expect their P/E ratios to be astronomical? After all, an Exxon shareholder would know that Exxon can just increase the price of oil as desired, so the stock would be attracting hordes of buyers.

Below is the oil industry's performance as found in the Yahoo Finance Industry Browser,

http://biz.yahoo.com/p/sum_conameu.html

Ranked by P/E ratio of 215 industries,
Oil & gas refining and marketing ranked #158
Oil & Gas drilling & exploration ranked #164
Major integrated oil & gas ranked #186

Ranked by net profit margin of 215 industries,
Oil & gas refining and marketing ranked #170
Oil & Gas drilling & exploration ranked #34
Major integrated oil & gas ranked #91

Ranked by ROE% of 215 industries,
Oil & gas refining and marketing ranked #65
Oil & Gas drilling & exploration ranked #115
Major integrated oil & gas ranked #42

Additionally, while the oil industry has outperformed averages over the past few years, last week the S&P 500 gained more than Exxon. The speculators and investors you blame for everything are saying, with their wallets, that they now expect the average American company to provide higher returns for them than Exxon will.

A very sophomoric piece of journalism, driven purely by political views and emotions without regard to serious and objective research, let alone basic facts that are simple to find. This is the kind of shabby writing that gives liberals a bad name in certain circles, and provides fodder for conservative critics.

Earl--Thanks for the link. The discussion in the "comments" section is particularly interesting. I would say the article raises more questions for me, but there are plenty of links in the discussion and the conversation is a good jumping-off point for inquiring minds...

There is not a federal law about disclosure of chemicals used, or about disposal (or recycling) of the used "slickwater." But most states, especially states with a substantial amount of natural gas, have their own laws (mostly identical to each other) that require that chemicals be listed on fracfocus.com (unless it's a proprietary chemical) and recycle or dispose of the fluid safely. It's not ideal, but it's not "no regulation" either.

Why doesn't Congress force the CFTC to do it's mandated job. Why, because city, county, state, and the federal governments use their retirement penion funds to invest, through hedge funds, in crude and fuel markets while the nation is held hostage. The rapping and pillaging of this nation is of no concern of our (there's a misnomer)congressmen.

U.S. congress has been lax in enforcing existing racketeering laws related crude & fuel price manipulation, laws and regulations such as the RICO Law of 1932, the Hubbs Anti-Racketeering Act of 1946, the Sherman Act, and the Anti Trust laws to name a few to stop speculation spikes from pushing crude, fuel, food, healthcare markets to the point that everyday they increase the danger of another collapse of the worlds economies ...... and the CFTC, well it still can't make up it's mind as to who's side their playing on.

It wasn't that long ago, in 2008 the consumer was being faced with making life changing decisions as a result of untethered speculation in crude and fuel prices. The choices were; to buy fuel to get to & from work, or buy heating oil to heat the home, or putting food on the family table, or paying the home mortgage. What happened is that carrying a mortgage became a rich man's luxury that millions of American families could no longer afford, yet the U'S. Congress continues to this day to set on it's hands and do nothing to stop the pillaging of the American economy by hedge fund groups the likes of J.P.Morgan, Citigroup, Chase, and Goldman Sachs, and dozens more. During 2008 one hedge fund manager, and we all know who that was, made an income of $3,000,000,000 at $900,000 an hour trading crude, fuels, and gold futures, and at the same time shorting those same markets, knowing that it was just a matter of time before even a strongest economy could not support the never ending rise of crude and fuel prices. Goldman Sachs has spent over three billion in legal fees & fines in just the last three years on fraud changes. Two months ago

Lloyd Blankfein has hired the largest legal gun in Washington as his legal defense council on more upcoming charges of fraud, and still crude and fuel prices continue to rise to historic highs ...... and it's 99% of America that continues to live from the dirty end of the stick?

Hi, Paul
The vote was 3-2 along party lines, for a version even weaker than the original proposal, i.e. allowing up to 25% market control in long contracts. Also might not go into effect until 2013. But possibly better than nothing.

OPEC, Libya and the laws of supply and demand are not responsible for high gasoline and oil prices. The oil price is dictated by the fraudulent "round-trip" trades of the "dark pool" trading in the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in Atlanta. The international Big Oil/big banking cabal, or an international gang of criminals, owns ICE. ICE operates outside of US law. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has no jurisdiction over ICE, influenced by Big Oil. ICE's energy traders and speculators can ratchet-up the oil price anytime they feel like it, for their own profits and on the behalf of Big Oil, through the use of "round-trip" trades. Google the "Global Oil Scam" and the "London-Dubai Loophole." "Paper oil" and the crude oil futures markets have to be done away with. Over 75% of the crude oil futures trades take place in the ICE. Oil is too critical a resource to be controlled and manipulated by greedy corporations, greedy refiners, greedy speculators and greedy traders. To obtain a fair oil price, Senator Sanders has to investigate ICE, and seize, immediately the trading records of ICE, before they are destroyed.
