OPEC today threatened to cut
its investment in oil drilling, sending prices “sky-high,” if the U.S.
and Europe even move toward any significant switch to biofuels. It
sounds just like Big Oil’s threat
to cut refinery investment if biofuels show any likelihood of curbing
oil and gasoline profits.
When gasoline prices go up, Big Oil blames OPEC. But when world alarm
over global warming gives a boost, even a potential boost, to biofuels,
Big Oil and OPEC join arms, issuing not-so-veiled threats against the
world fuel supply.
So much for all the recent contrite words about climate change from
Big Oil CEOs. They’re just a new way to greenwash actual intent.
